Buying USA made products is important to our economic future!
You might think cheap imported products are a good choice because they save you money. Think about what happens when you buy imports. Someone in this country loses a job. Companies that still make their products here feel pressure to move production out of the country. Most of the money you spent leaves the country with little or no chance of ever coming back to you. When you buy domestic goods your money stays in the country. The money recycles within the country spuring economic growth.
There are other reasons why made buying products made in the USA matters:
- Jobs: For years political and corporate leaders have justified the lose of manufactoring jobs by saying that our economy is transforming into a service economy. The fact is that every time a manufacturing facility moves out of the country a percentage of the people who lose their jobs never find an equivalent job. They are forced to subsist on minimum wage jobs and government handouts.
- Wealth: When you build a product that is worth more than the sum of it's parts you create wealth.
- Trade deficit: There have been trade deficits every year since 1976. According to the US Census Bureau the deficit in 1976 was $6,082,000. It has increased to $735,702,000 in 2012. There are many who claim the trade deficit does not matter, but the fact is that our country is hemorrhaging money and there is a direct correlation between the deficit, the movement of manufactoring out of the country and the shrinking middle class.
- Environment: Feul burned to transport good around the world causes pollution and increased greenhouse gases. It makes more sense to build the product closer to the end users.
- National security: Before World War II the United States was an industrial giant. We were able to transform our existing industry to produce the military equipment needed to win the war. What would the outcome have been if our industry had already declined to what it is today?
